Emily Stone Anvil

Anvil in copper sculptor workshop

What do you do with an old anvil? If no-one wants it, it is too big to throw away; they sit, neglected, at the back of a shed or barn until someone remembers it is there. They survive, all down the years. This one belonged to my grandfather, but no-one can remember how he came by it. This style of anvil is hand-forged, and it could date from as early as 1400 or as recent as 1850. All I know is, it has a lovely springy face and it suits my work perfectly.
