Emily Stone Copper Flower Dahlia Sculpture Pompon

dahlia Pompon sculpture

I was asked to create a set of sculptures representing all nine of the categories of dahlia, by Steve Edney, Head Gardener at The Salutation Gardens, Sandwich.

This is the Pompon (yes, really spelt like that, apparently) and it is amazingly heavy. What nature achieves effortlessly, created in copper, requires many layers of sheet, carefully cut, individually shaped and coloured. However, the result is worth it: I love the richness and solid perfection of the ball shape.
