Emily Stone copper bee sculpture 1

Emily Stone copper bee sculpture 1

My bee is larger than you might expect: 24cm from antennae to tail, 30cm across the wing-tips. However, I’m very pleased with his solid and chunky feel; a bee should be quite robust, compared with the fragile structure of a mosquito or dragonfly. The veined iridescent wings are a new technique. One thing to consider is that this level of detail takes time, and a smaller simplified version probably would not work as well – the detail is what makes him so good.

He is fitted with loops under his feet, so he can be hung vertically or placed standing.
