The spitfire is one of the very few inanimate sculptures I have undertaken, and I agreed to take it on only after I’d had the idea of forming only one colour of the camouflage paint into the skin, stretched over the ribs and struts of the fuselage. There was a great deal of very fiddly making here, because the image is in the detail. The decaying remains of the dream which won the Battle of Britain.
£1,950. It is only 57cm by 51cm.
